For me spirituality is a deeply personal process of learning to love.
Being able to expand my thinking beyond my basic immediate needs. Being able to consider the needs of others even when in stressful and anxious times. Being able to consider the group rather than just my own needs.
Spirituality is that serene state in which I am at peace with my inner self and my surroundings.
First of all, according to period dictionaries, spiritual means "non-material." In other words, it refers to our attitudes, emotions, ideas, opinions, understandings and yearnings. AEIOU The things we cannot see or touch. AA is not a program of believing, pretending or "acting as if." It is a program of action. Both Steps and Principles mean "a course of action."
“ the invisible thread, connecting the universe with my deepest essence”
Spirituality is about me connecting with any theories, beliefs and values that connect me to the existence of the human condition. It’s not the absence of a belief but more about the idea that one can find value in many different interdisciplinary and holistic perspectives.
I would say... for me, spirituality concerns things beyond the material or even intellectual. It's about feeling connected to the vastness of existence, trying to grasp what a small bit of it I am, and trying to actually see the other people around me. And other stuff. Heehee!
Being kind enough to hold a door and not brag about it. Knowing that you care about people and don't gotta show it. Being afraid of stuff (food places events) but willing to try them for your loved ones.
I would define spiritually, for me, as being deeply connected to my higher power.
For me, that higher power is the fellowship of AA. Calling others, texting, receiving calls, and going to meetings on a regular basis provides me the connection I need to remain sober and spiritually fulfilled in my life.
I can't be the best version of myself, if I am not connected to all of the love and acceptance in the AA fellowship.
Spirituality is inside job including love , authenticity, honesty, contemplation, prayer , and meditation. I refer to a greater life force as higher power, or good orderly direction. I’ll be curious about your thoughts also.
“Secular spirituality is the adherence to a spiritual philosophy without adherence to a religion. It emphasizes the individual’s inner peace rather than a relationship with the divine. Secular spirituality is made up of the search for meaning outside of a religious institution. It considers one’s relationship with the self, others, nature, and whatever else one considers the ultimate. Often, the goal of secular spirituality is living happily and/or helping others.”
The terms “spiritual experience” and “spiritual awakening” are used many times in this book which, upon careful reading, shows that the personality change sufficient to bring about recovery from alcoholism has manifested itself among us in many different forms.
